Designed for a well known local wine maker in Cowaramup on an angular ¼ acre block in Cowaramup. An important part of the brief was to have an ancillary dwelling to rent out full time. So this was to be 70m2 and as private as possible with its own yard and parking space.
Pushing the main 3*2 house further back on the block to the bush at the back helped create 2 separate courtyards, one for each house.
Eliminating the traditional front door has opened up some really nice design possibilities. As you approach the main house you walk between the two dwellings, each opening out on an angle to welcome the visitors along a beautifully designed Japanese style garden.
An interesting feature of both buildings was the concept of built in plywood furniture. This helps save space on smaller dwellings and also generated its own storage under the hinged seats.
