On one of the most stunning 3 hectare blocks in Margaret River with direct access to the Margaret River waterfalls, this house was never going to be ordinary. With many nights spent camping on the block it became apparent between the owners and Danny that they had a dilemma: how to capture the view but also be able to retreat from the constant cold southerly winds blowing up the hill. If it were not for this camping experience, the house could have been quite different: they chose to ‘bunker’ the house down in the slope rather than elevating the building and created a large back patio which is not only out of the wind but also captures the view through large expanses of glass north and south.

The result is a double sided house with the cantlivered front verandah ideal on balmy days and the sheltered back area for when the wind picks up. They chose Spotted Gum cladding exclusively which will weather and grey over time blending the house into the environment. Building at the front of the building envelope with closer access to the river connects the house to the swimming hole and waterfall at the bottom of the hill that make this block so special….very glamorous camping.
